Vilas Middle School
Vilas Middle School is located in the rural town of Alstead, NH on the same campus as the Alstead Primary School. The school provides a traditional education which strives to meet the challenges of academic excellence and prepare students for the rigors of high school. Average class sizes vary between 17 and 23.
The school is made up of two buildings. The main building is a 1934 beautiful, brick structure. The second building is a wooden structure located in back of the brick school which houses two classrooms and bathroom facilities. Both buildings are used every day for 6th-8th grade classes. Two teachers teach 6th grade and four teachers teach core subjects to both 7th and 8th graders. All students have guidance, gym and unified arts classes. Unified arts is provided on a trimester basis consisting of art, health, and industrial arts/home economics. Foreign language is avialable to 7th and 8th graders.
The principal's office is at Vilas. The guidance counselor and nurse schedule time at Vilas daily. In the absence of the principal, an experienced lead teacher is assigned to administrate minor day to day school affairs. The principal is always on call to provide supervision.

Homework Club
Vilas offers a homework club from 8:00-8:30 AM every day in the library to allow students quiet time to finish homework. We provide supported study halls, math tutoring during the day, and assistance from classroom/resource room aides. Special education services are available to students who qualify. The students benefit from speech, occupational therapy, and/or individualized instruction.
Co-Curricular Activities
Co-curricular activities are part of Vilas school life. We offer band, chorus, drama, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, math team, stock market project, spelling bee and geography bee competitions. Last period on Fridays is club day. Students may sign up for teacher/staff run activities per trimester such as archery, football, volleyball, computers, etc.
