Dr. Christopher Spence was unanimously selected to serve as the next superintendent for the Fall Mountain Regional School District, SAU 60, effective July 1st, 2023. Dr. Spence is a student-centered transformative leader dedicated to augmenting student achievement and positively impacting students’ post-secondary outcomes.

Dr. Spence is an educator with many diverse experiences across the education continuum. He has worked in both traditional public and charter schools, within both urban and suburban contexts. At the elementary, middle, and secondary levels he served as an English language arts teacher, middle school dean, and assistant principal. Prior to his tenure as superintendent, he served as the assistant superintendent for strategic planning for the Rochester City School District, East EPO in New York State. With that said, much of his career has been centered on turnaround work designed to improve student outcomes.

Additionally, Dr. Spence is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY), Educational Leadership and Policy Ph.D. program. In addition to his doctorate degree, he holds two masters from the same university in English education and educational administration, as well as a bachelor’s degree in English from Hilbert College. Similarly, he also holds two certifications from SUNY Buffalo: School District Leadership and School Building Leadership. Most recently, he graduated from the American Association of School Administrators (AASA).

Throughout his career, he has strived to ensure that students have an opportunity to achieve personally and academically irrespective of their demography. The crux of his work is centered on improving student outcomes and reducing impediments to students’ success. His academic interests have been centered on understanding the ways in which systems work explicitly and implicitly to produce outcomes within schools and the broader society. Professionally, he is primarily concerned with reducing barriers toward student achievement, while creating opportunities for all children to receive a high-quality education.

Dr. Spence is the proud son of an educator and recalls many early experiences observing his mother teach and service her community. Consequently, he enjoys reading, time with family, traveling, and connecting with his community. He is excited for the opportunity to lead the Fall Mountain Regional School District!
